Steps to Healthy Living Campaign
Each year, the Network for a Healthy California—LAUSD (Network) recruits schools to participate in the KABC7 Steps to Healthy Living Diabetes and Obesity Prevention Campaign, a unique campaign that teaches 4th and 5th grade students about exercise, healthy nutrition and diabetes prevention.
The KABC7 Steps to Healthy Living Diabetes and Obesity Prevention Campaign is a partnership between KABC7, Kaiser
Permanente, CVS Caremark and the American Cancer Society, as well as various community-based organizations and school
districts from all over Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. As part of the program, students have the
opportunity to learn about healthy behaviors and disease prevention by recording their fruit and vegetable consumption and counting their steps using pedometers provided to them at no cost by program partners.
The program is always a huge hit with Network schools. Children who participate learn how to make positive lifestyle changes that can lead them into more productive, healthier adulthoods. In addition to in-school participation, the campaign brings awareness into the community by holding various community wide events.
