Parents

Parents are an integral part of our students’ lives and play a key role in providing them with good nutrition. It’s important that the healthy lessons we’re teaching kids during the school day continue even after our students leave the classroom. When kids are at home, they need to continue eating fruits and vegetables and being active. Parents are an important part of making sure this happens.

The Network for a Healthy California (Network) is always looking for ways to make sure parents have the information they need to make healthy choices at home. The following educational opportunities are offered free of charge to parents of students attending Network-participating schools.

Nutrition Education Presentations: Network schools can request a 90-minute parent presentation that gives parents the tips and tools they need to make healthy, active living a priority for their families. During the presentation, a Registered Dietitian shares information about the different food groups, gives examples of healthy choices from each group, and shares information about why making fruits and vegetables part of family meals and snacks is so important. Our bilingual Parent Resource Consultant also shares ideas about resources to help families put healthy foods on their tables, including food stamps and other local assistance programs in the community. The Network encourages parents to ask questions during presentations so they leave feeling empowered and armed with the tools they need to make healthy changes.

The registration form to request a presentation is provided below. The request must be made by one of the following: school administrator, school nurse, teacher, or parent center representative.
