Network Share-a-thon Looking for ideas? Have ideas to share? Then come to the Network's Share-a-thon! The Share-a-thon will be held at Vista Middle School on March 8 and at Peary Middle School on March 15. Space is limited. Click here for more information.


National Nutrition Month, March 1 – 31, 2012.  The theme for this year’s campaign is “Get Your Plate in Shape.”  In addition, National School Breakfast Week is March 5 – March 9, 2012. National School Breakfast Week aims to help LAUSD students, teachers and parents learn why a healthy breakfast that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables is the best way to start the school day. To assist teachers with the goal of encouraging students to eat a healthy breakfast daily, the Network has developed the "MyPlate Healthy Breakfast Kit." Tapestries of Health, A Soulful Workshop on Wellness and Nutrition, February 25, 2012 at Dorsey High School Parents and community members are invited to attend this free interactive and informational workshop that will address issues of wellness and nutrition most prevalent within our community. The Network for a Healthy California—LAUSD is presenting this workshop in collaboration with Champions for Change African American Campaign and Black Women for Wellness. Space is limited. Annie's Grants for Gardens is now accepting applications for a limited number of small grants to community and school gardens. These funds can be used to buy gardening tools, seeds and other supplies. The application deadline is February 29, 2012. Click here for more information.


Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant program is now accepting applications for the Spring 2012 cycle. School reading and vegetable gardens and physical activity areas are examples of the types of projects this grant can fund. The application deadline is February 17, 2012. Good News!  Participants will no longer be asked to submit time logs.  Your commitment to teach 35 hours of nutrition education for the school year remains the same, but there are no time logs to complete.


Fuel up to Play 60 is the in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by the National Dairy Council (NDC) and the National Football League in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).  The program includes a variety of resources and incentives.
